In June, La Peer Health Systems (LPHS), an outpatient surgery center based in Beverly Hills, joined LACMA as official members.

We had a chance to speak with one of LPHS’ leaders, Dr. Babak Azizzadeh about the LPHS model and what specifically contributes to their success.

What makes La Peer Health Systems unique?

Dr Azizzadeh: At La Peer Health Systems, we start with our pillars to keep us focused, grounded and together: Quality, Service, Technology (Innovation) and Safety are the hallmarks of our organization. We strive to deliver the highest quality care. A lot of organizations say this, we live it every day. We talk about. We look for ways to improve our quality. We ask our physicians and partners what can we do to improve quality.

What about service? Do you deploy a service excellence model?

Dr. Azizzadeh: Yes! We spend a substantial amount of time looking at our service delivery model. Is it complex? Is it patient friendly? Is it physician friendly? What we found is that it’s not enough to commit to excellent service. You have to demonstrate it and almost “hardwire” it into your culture.

How does technology fit into this model?

Dr Azizzadeh: If we don’t provide doctors with the most advanced technology, supported by a healing and nurturing environment, then the patient and physician have poor experiences. Our goal is to make sure we are constantly looking at new innovations relative to technological advances so we can improve outcomes, recovery process and overall patient satisfaction.

So this commitment to technology actually impacts safety?

Dr Azizzadeh: It all ties together to create an optimal patient experience. In fact, we can tout that LPHS is a leader in patient safety. We have worked hard to achieve this and we never take our eye off the ball when it comes to patient safety.

Who are your key audiences?

Dr Azizzadeh: We like to say patients, physicians and staff always come first. This is a harmonious relationship. We treat all with absolute respect which is why we have engaged physicians, happy patients and a staff that truly cares about the needs of both.

Your facility is impressive, how does the environment shape the experience model?

Dr Azizzadeh: The facility is central to the healing environment. We strive to make it comfortable, warm and when it comes to surgical areas, they are aesthetically calm. We have robotics and complex systems to ensure procedures are performed with maximum precision and the least amount of discomfort.

How would you describe what is unique about LPHS from a physician perspective?

Dr Azizzadeh: Advanced technology, caring and skilled surgeons and the best staff dedicated to compassionate, safe, understanding care. I invite any physician not familiar with the LPHS organization to reach out to me anytime to learn more about us and how can help them and their patients. It’s also a privilege to be part of LACMA!
